About Michael’s 3-D Street Paintings
Michael produced his first street painting in May of 2003 as a participant in a local street painting contest in his hometown of East Greenwich, RI. He received tremendous feedback throughout the day from numerous onlookers and ultimately won first place in the contest. From that day, Michael was hooked on street painting. It was such a thrill to create artwork as a performance art while under the close watch of the public eye.
With the growing excitement, enthusiasm, and support at each event that Michael participated in, he tried continuously to challenge himself in new ways. At his next work in Cambridge, MA, Michael incorporated a small surface pothole into his artwork as it became the open mouth of a baseball player sliding into home plate. The “blemish” in the pavement became the topic of discussion that day. Again, Michael was awarded for his efforts. Michael still enjoys creatively incorporating existing pavement cracks and flaws into his street paintings whenever it works well.
In 2005, Michael then started incorporating 3-D street paintings into his repertoire; the first being a street painting of Superman busting up through the pavement. This piece was featured in the Providence Journal; much more press coverage soon followed. He has developed more of a following with each street painting that he has created; Michael’s art has further developed as he pushes himself to perform at a higher standard with every artistic opportunity.
